Find out everything you need to know about the capabilities of the MRI scanner at «HBMedical», as well as the preparation and features of the examination
Equipment capabilities
At the HBMedical clinic, all MRI examinations (including with contrast) are performed on a 2021 expert-class magnetic resonance imaging machine manufactured by Siemens Magnetom Sempra (Germany) with the following parameters:
- The strength of the magnetic field is 1.5 Tesla
- Weight limit for patients is 150 kg
- Patient circumference in the widest part – no more than 135 cm (1.35 m)
It is important that HBMedical provides the possibility of transfer in a specially equipped medical car for patients who have difficulty moving due to injuries or damage, as well as for patients with special needs
Preparation for examination
Most MRI studies do not require special preparation, however, some examinations of the abdominal cavity or pelvis may require some food restriction 6-8 hours before the visit.
Before the procedure, the administrator will ask you to fill out a patient questionnaire to make sure that the doctor is informed about any potential problems.
If you have a referral from a doctor and/or the results of previous tests, we advise you to provide them to the HBMedical administrator for inclusion in the patient’s card.
Note that due to the strong magnetic field, the procedure may be contraindicated for patients with metal implants, except for certified products (MRIsafety).
Preparing the patient for MRI with contrast
Before undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with contrast, the patient must adhere to the following recommendations:
1. General requirements:
– Be sure to inform the doctor or medical staff about the presence of allergies, chronic diseases, bronchial asthma, diabetes, renal failure or any other serious conditions.
– Find out if you have had previous reactions to contrast agents or medications.
2. Preparation before the examination:
– It is advisable to refrain from eating 4–6 hours before MRI with contrast, especially if intravenous administration of the drug is planned.
– Drinking water is allowed as usual.
– If you are taking regular medications, consult with your doctor whether you need to take a break.
3. Before entering the MRI room:
– Remove all metal objects: jewelry, watches, belts, hairpins, hearing aids, removable dentures, credit cards.
– Tell your doctor if you have metal implants, a pacemaker, vascular clips, endoprostheses or other metal structures in your body.
4. During the contrast injection:
– The contrast agent is injected intravenously, most often based on gadolinium.
– A short-term feeling of cold or warmth along the vein is possible – this is a normal reaction.
– If you experience itching, difficulty breathing or dizziness – immediately inform the staff.
5. After the examination:
– Drink more water during the day after the MRI to help the contrast agent be eliminated more quickly.
– If you experience unusual symptoms (rash, difficulty breathing, swelling) – contact your doctor.
Following these recommendations will ensure safe and high-quality MRI with contrast.
How is the procedure performed?
Perhaps the most important thing to note right away is that all MRI examinations at the HBMedical clinic are performed painlessly for patients, in addition:
- Before the scan, in a separate closed changing room, you will be asked to remove all metal and electronic items to avoid damaging them and, if necessary, put on a disposable gown.
- In the case of undergoing an MRI of the brain, pituitary gland, orbits, inner ear, paranasal sinuses, it will be necessary to carefully remove makeup.
- The duration of MRI, as a rule, is up to 30 minutes, but sometimes the studies take a little longer.
The space inside the scanner is relatively small, so patients with claustrophobia may feel some discomfort.
The noise load during the scan will not cause negative feelings, as the patient is offered noise-reducing headphones.
We also emphasize that by signing up for this service at HBmedical, you should get rid of any worries, because our experienced specialists will definitely prepare you properly and do everything to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
Upon completion of the scanning procedure:
- Within two hours (in most cases), the doctor will draw up an appropriate conclusion based on the results of the procedure
- However, when conducting complex studies, especially those that require comparison, the formation of a conclusion can take up to 2-3 days (up to 72 hours)
- You can order copying of images to a DVD or flash drive, as well as – sign up for a free consultation with a therapist
