When is a cardiologist consultation necessary
A cardiologist appointment is indicated when the following symptoms appear:
- episodes of fainting, impaired consciousness;
- high blood pressure;
- shortness of breath not only during physical exertion, but also at rest, a feeling of lack of air;
- excessive sweating;
- arrhythmia;
- edema syndrome, especially in the legs (so-called “cardiac edema”);
- pain syndrome or discomfort in the chest;
- rapid fatigue, weakness.
It is also recommended to make an appointment with a cardiologist for preventive examinations after serious infectious diseases (for example, scarlet fever, angina, etc.). Regular examinations are also indicated for patients from the risk group due to heredity, with a history of heart surgery, diagnosed defects and pathologies. This will allow for a timely assessment of the condition and identify changes in the early stages, which will significantly simplify treatment and speed up recovery.

The most common pathologies treated by a cardiologist include:
- arterial hypertension;
- aortic stenosis;
- variable cardiac arrhythmia – can manifest as tachycardia (increased heart rate),
- bradycardia (slowing of heart rate), irregular rhythm with correct contraction of the ventricle or asystole (absence of electrical activity);
- coronary artery disease;
- severe heart failure due to organ dysfunction with reduced cardiac output;
- heart defects of various genesis;
- heart attack myocardium;
- inflammatory processes (myocarditis, endocarditis);
Also a cardiologist in Kyiv diagnoses and treats pulmonary embolism, which occurs due to blood clots in deep veins.
In cardiology, there are many different diagnostic methods. In clinical practice, the following are performed:
- electrocardiogram to assess cardiac conduction;
- 24-hour Holter monitoring – continuous recording of heart dynamics, which allows you to detect changes in heart activity and monitor the patient’s blood pressure throughout the day;
- spiroergometry to assess blood circulation and breathing during physical exertion. The study allows you to measure the intensity of the respiratory flow, the level of oxygen consumption, heart rate, and carbon dioxide excretion;
- scintigraphy to examine the coronary artery in case of suspected coronary artery disease. After physical exertion, the patient is injected with an isotope that accumulates in the inflamed tissue, while in the scarred or non-bleeding areas, everything remains unchanged;
- echocardiography (USG) to visualize a complete image of the heart using ultrasound;
- computed tomography to obtain information about the anatomy of the heart and arteries, to detect coronary artery disease, assess the integrity of implants and bypass surgery;
- oronarography to obtain a cardiac image using a radiopaque substance;
- stress tests to check cardiac activity during physical exertion. They are performed on an ergometer or treadmill, the load limit depends on the patient’s age category, weight, height, and gender.
Diagnostic and treatment methods in cardiology at the NBMedical clinic
When contacting a specialist at the NBMedical medical center, each patient can count on a guaranteed comprehensive examination that meets the standards of clinical recommendations.
At the initial appointment, the cardiologist:
- Carefully collects a detailed history, listens to complaints.
- Performs an examination and physical examination, focusing on auscultation of the heart with a stethoscope to detect abnormal heart sounds murmurs.
- Measures blood pressure.
- Assigns a clinical minimum for determining the level of lipids in the blood (lipidogram), ferritin, and in some cases, if necessary, C-reactive protein.
- Refers the patient to comprehensive instrumental diagnostics.
Based on the data, the cardiologist makes a diagnosis and determines the treatment tactics. Most pathologies of the heart and blood vessels detected in the early stages respond well to drug andphysical therapy. In addition to medical treatment methods, the doctor will give recommendations on lifestyle to reduce the risk factors of heart disease and complications (giving up bad habits, reducing dietary fats in the menu, regular physical activity, minimizing stressful situations, etc.).
If you need a consultation with a cardiologist in Kyiv – we invite you to the NBMedical medical center.
All diagnostic measures are carried out on high-precision expert equipment, and advanced treatment methods based on the principles of evidence-based medicine are used in the treatment. The drug therapy regimen is developed individually, taking into account the severity of the pathology, blood pressure indicators, the presence of risk factors, complications and concomitant diseases (diseases of the endocrine system, etc.).
