When is a neurosurgeon consultation necessary
A referral to a neurosurgeon can be planned or urgent. It is necessary to choose a convenient time and make an appointment if you have the following symptoms:
- numbness of the limbs, cramps;
- pain in the spine or other parts of the body that restricts movements and prevents full control of the trunk, arms, legs;
- dizziness that is disturbing in both vertical and horizontal positions;
- nausea, although there are no visible reasons;
- headache, which is chronic and continues to bother even after taking painkillers and antispasmodics;
- gait disturbance;
- memory loss;
- deterioration of the speech organs;
- vomiting that does not stop after taking special medications;
- eye movements that cannot be controlled;
- strabismus that has appeared for unknown reasons;
- decrease or deterioration of normal and peripheral vision;
- protrusion of the eyeballs apples;
- impaired sexual function associated with back pain.
You should immediately go to the emergency room for a consultation with a neurosurgeon after an accident, especially if you have been injured, fainted, or feel dizzy. You should also urgently consult a specialist if you experience frequent headaches and vomiting with fainting – such symptoms may indicate the development of a serious illness.
Doctors of other specializations (neurologists, oncologists, cardiologists) often refer you to a neurosurgeon for the following diseases and pathologies:
- osteochondrosis;
- neuralgia;
- stroke;
- Parkinson’s disease;
- increased intracranial pressure, hemorrhages;
- tumors of the brain and spinal cord;
- brain cyst;
- herniated intervertebral discs and others disease.
Usually, additional examinations are required to make a diagnosis:
- Computed tomography
- CT
- MSCT
- MRI
- Ultrasound
If the specialist finds indications for surgery, the patient will be prescribed additional tests to prepare for it. You can sign up for all necessary procedures at our clinic.

Diagnostic and treatment methods in neurosurgery at the NBMedical clinic
Consultation with a neurosurgeon in Kyivand at the NBMedical medical center can be held in person in the doctor’s office or online. An in-person appointment is possible if the patient already has the results of the necessary tests ready and has previously visited the specialist several times. A new patient must first come for a consultation in person so that the neurosurgeon can examine him, prescribe the necessary tests and examinations that can be taken in the clinic.
Usually, a face-to-face consultation with a doctor goes like this:
- Collection of anamnesis. The neurosurgeon carefully listens to the patient’s symptoms. If he has pain, the doctor asks him to tell about it in more detail (localization, type of pain) and evaluate them on a scale from 1 to 10. The more detailed the symptoms are described, the faster the specialist will understand the cause.
- Examination of the patient. The doctor conducts the necessary diagnostics. He can examine the patient’s body, the places where the pain is localized, perform some tests that can be done on site in the office.
- Ordering additional tests. This happens if necessary or when the patient’s data is already outdated.
After that, you will need to make an appointment for a repeat appointment and come with the test results ready. The neurosurgeon will study them, conduct another examination and be able to make the correct diagnosis. Then the doctor will prescribe treatment: it can be medication or surgical. It should be noted that the cost of surgery to remove a brain tumor depends on the location and the technology involved. The technology for performing a neurosurgical operation depends on its type. It, in turn, is determined by the disease that led to the need for radical intervention. Depending on this, neurosurgery in Kiev involves the following surgical methods of treating the CNS: Stereotactic. This is a modern method of neurosurgery that allows you to perform brain surgery without trepanation. Access is through a small opening, which is then inserted with a special tool.
- Endoscopic. Such operations are most often performed on the ventricles of the brain. The main tool is an endoscope, which has a hard but flexible structure;
- Endovasal. This is a type of operation performed for diseases of the cerebral vessels. In the process of intervention in the vascular system using catheters, which allow a special occlusion device to be delivered to the affected vessel. It “turns off” some types of aneurysms and cerebral fistulas. Catheterization is most often performed on the femoral or carotid artery.
- Radiosurgical. The affected area of the brain is affected by a clearly directed beam of radiation. In terms of accuracy, such a manipulation can be compared with surgical intervention, which is why it is called radiosurgical. This method allows for irradiating deep-seated tumors without touching healthy tissues.
A separate group of neurosurgical operations are minimally invasive interventions for spinal pathology.
NBMedical employsthe best neurosurgeons in Ukraine and implements the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies.
