Indications for rhinoplasty
Indications for surgery are any aesthetic defect that spoils your appearance and lowers your self-esteem:
- humpbacked nose;
- too long/wide nose;
- dropped tip of the nose;
- high or wide back;
- mismatch in size and shape of the tip of the nose to its overall size;
- snub nose;
- asymmetry of the nostrils;
- crooked nose;
- deviated nasal septum;
- difficulty nasal breathing.
Contraindications:
- age under 18 years;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- coagulation disorders blood;
- blood and cardiovascular system diseases;
- tendency to keloid scars;
- endocrine, autoimmune, chronic diseases;
- diabetes;
- oncological diseases;
- tumors (malignant and benign);
- viruses, infections.
Depending on the localization of the intervention and its features, the following are distinguished:
- rhinoplasty of the tip of the nose;
- rhinoplasty of the nasal wings;
- correction of the hump;
- correction of the nasal septum;
- endoscopic septoplasty of the nose;
- rhinoseptoplasty.
Rhinoplasty is usually performed on patients aged 18-40. At a later age, the operation can be performed, but the risks of side effects are much higher. In order for the recovery process to proceed as quickly and comfortably as possible, the regenerative function of tissues in the body must be adequate. Over the years, the regeneration processes slow down. And before the age of 18, the operation is not performed, because the cartilage and bone tissue have not yet fully formed. In general, it is optimal to correct the shape and size of the nose at the age of 25.

Types of septoplasty at the NBMedical clinic
Plastic surgeons of the NBMedical clinic – highly qualified specialists with extensive experience perform the following types of interventions:
- septoplasty – alignment of the septum to improve nasal breathing;
- rhinoseptoplasty – septoplasty + correction of the shape and size of the external nose;
- conchotomy – restoration of the natural anatomy of the lower turbinates for free nasal breathing.
Preparation for surgery and postoperative period
First, you need to come to a consultation with a doctor with a formulated wish to change your appearance. The doctor should hear from you in detail how you see your nose in the future. Sometimes patients do not fully imagine how a particular shape of the nose will look on their face. For this, computer modeling is used. The doctor takes your pictures: front, profile, ¾, and then changes the shape and size of your nose in a special program. This allows you to clearly present the planned result of the operation.
You need to take the tests prescribed by the doctor, take a picture of the nose, if necessary, an ultrasound of soft tissues, and even an ECG, fluorography, etc. The doctor will provide a list of studies at the consultation. The research should be no more than 14 days before the date of the operation.
Two weeks later, the patient stops taking blood-thinning medications (if they are taken according to indications), limits the use of alcoholic beverages and smoking. During this period, the doctor will recommend medications that will prepare you for the operation.
The psychological factor plays an important role. You should understand that after rhinoplasty, when you come out of anesthesia, you will not be able to breathe through your nose – only through your mouth. This is a temporary restriction due to the need to have tampons in the nasal passages. Remember, after the operation you will be under the supervision of a doctor and a nurse. Entrusting your health to professionals, you should not worry. The calmer you are, the easier the recovery process will be.
Rehabilitation
The surgical method of correction involves a long recovery, as this is a serious intervention in the body. During the entire rehabilitation period, you cannot play sports, go to the sauna and pool, or steam your face at home. On the recommendation of a doctor, self-massage may be prescribed.
Until the nose heals, it is better not to drink alcohol, as it thins the blood. In the first three weeks after the operation, you cannot wear glasses.
Swelling and hematomas are normal consequences, they pass 2-3 weeks after rhinoplasty. During the recovery period, you should sleep on your back.
Your doctor will give you recommendations for treating the stitches. If the plastic surgery was performed open, over time, laser resurfacing of postoperative scars can be performed to achieve the best aesthetic result.
The nose will take its final shape no earlier than six months after the intervention. During this time, you should visit your doctor for check-ups. The surgeon will take photographs that allow you to track the dynamics of recovery.
